Animals in the Art of Jewellery
Great Animals such as the lion, the ram, the snake and the dolphin have always been a cornerstone in most cultures and religions. In the Greek Pantheon and the Greek Mythology these animals were symbols of great importance and deep allegory. Classic examples were the Lion of Nemea, the Golden Fleece of the Argonauts, the snake in the caduceus of the God Hermes and the dolphin-symbol of the God Poseidon.
The lion is the symbol of valor, courage and power. The ram symbolizes honesty and bravery. The snake is related with fertility and immortality while the dolphin is associated with freedom, intelligence, the power of friendship and the joy of life.
