Gemstones and Precious Stones
A gemstone is a piece of mineral crystal which is used to make jewellery or other adornments in its cut and polished form. Nonetheless, there are certain rocks and occasionally organic materials which are not considered minerals but are used for jewellery and are therefore often considered to be gemstones as well. Most gemstones are hard, but some soft minerals are used in jewellery because of their luster or other physical properties that have aesthetic value.
Gemstones which are highly valuable for their hardness and rarity are known as Precious Stones or Semi-Precious Stones. Precious Stones are generally more expensive in comparison of Semi-Precious Stones.
There are many types of Precious or Semi-Precious Stones that can be used in the creation of a piece of jewellery. Each one of them has its own properties and its own special meaning and that is what makes every piece unique and personal.
